If it matters, ifW from version 10 and onward (the version where 'syncing' was introduced) is supposedly built on MSFT's OneDrive engine. Personally, I think ifW is Apple's sore stepchild from the country, hasn't gotten as much attention and engineering hours as it should in the past, but I know they plan to have it integrate with Photos in Win 11 (has been announced, think availability is early 2023). Regardless of platform, syncing of photos from iCloud is never really instantaneous. One that syncs full files, and one that syncs 'thumbnails'. And I have a few Macs connected to iCloud Photos. I have a one Win 11 PC but have not yet tried the newly released version of ifW. I have a few Win 10 PCs where I have run both version 7 (download only) as well as version 10 (sync) of ifW. IfW is finnicky, and sometimes you just have to wait. You are doing the right thing right-mouse-click and 'always keep on this device'. Would appreciate any feedback from other advanced users with one foot in both world: Microsoft and Apple! The 'My photo stream" option from the "Win 7" version looked much more clear to me at that time, with more options than the recent versions. In my present case, I'm on Win 10 so it should donwload automatically in full frame.Īnyways, 'always been thinking that iCloud client for Windows has been a mess with multiple different versions "Win 7", "Win 10", and now "Win 11" versions. Now reading that it is only "optimized" versions of photos downloading to PC with the "Win 11" version. On their customer help pages (which i doubt are up to date), Apple says it should automatically download when running the "Win 10" version of the iCloud for Windows client. Is this a new "restriction" imposed by Apple, I don't know why, maybe to free some bandwith on internet or what? I need to open the file for it to download, or right-clic the all folder and tick the always keep on my device option.īut what I would like is any new photo to automatically donwload to my PC in full format with the iCloud client running in background. Even though I checked the option to always keep files from my iCloud photo folder on my PC, i noticed that new photos do appear listed but do not automatically download to my PC!
